What Are Porcelain Veneers?
If you find yourself struggling with the appearance of your smile or simply want to enhance it, our natural-looking porcelain veneers may be a great option for you. Porcelain veneers are thin shells that bond directly to the front surface of your teeth, giving your smile a naturally flawless look. The entire veneer’s process is quick, easy, and only requires two visits to our Farmington dental practice.
The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers boost your confidence, improve your appearance, and can fix a variety of dental problems. Some of which include:
- Discolored, stained, or yellowed teeth
- Misaligned, uneven teeth
- Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth that are too small or large
The Veneers Process
During your first visit, we’ll take a digital impression of your teeth to ensure your veneers look and feel perfect. These images will be sent to a special lab where your veneers will be customized, typically taking two to four weeks.
Once your specially crafted veneers are ready, you’ll return to our Farmington office to have them placed. One of our dentists will safely remove a portion of your tooth enamel to make room for the veneer. Once you’re satisfied with the shape and color, we’ll use a bonding agent to adhere the veneers to your teeth. After this step is completed, you’re ready to show off your new, stunning smile.
Is the veneer’s procedure painful?
No, the porcelain veneer’s procedure is virtually painless and is over within two short appointments. Our Farmington dentists utilized minimally invasive approaches, ensuring that patients feel the least amount of pain as possible. You may experience some mild discomfort after your veneers have been placed, but this should fade within a few hours.
How Do I Care for My Veneers?
While veneers aren’t a permanent solution, they can last up to 15 years or more if cared for properly. To improve the longevity of your veneers, you’ll want to follow a few guidelines:
- Refrain from tooth-staining foods and beverages such as red wine, berries, and coffee
- Avoid eating hard foods such as ice, candy, popcorn, and nuts
- Wear a mouthguard to prevent teeth grinding, or bruxism
- Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and rinse your mouth between meals
What if my veneer falls off or is damaged?
If your veneer falls off, contact our office immediately by calling (505) 327-4863 and let us know. We’ll ensure you get in for an appointment as soon as possible and make your smile beautiful again by fixing your veneer.
In the meantime, put the veneer in a small container to keep it safe so you can bring it to your appointment for re-application. We can either re-attach the veneer or suggest new ones if you’ve had your current veneers for a long time.
Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?
There are many reasons patients choose veneers, from improving their appearance to correcting a dental issue. You may be a good candidate for porcelain veneers if you want to:
- Cover broken or chipped teeth
- Even out the appearance of your teeth
- Conceal teeth that have been fractured
- Cover stains resistant to a whitening agent
- Make small teeth appear larger
